Designers, bloggers and shop owners often download a logo or product cutout and discover it is a WebP file their editor will not open. Converting WebP to PNG solves that while keeping transparent backgrounds intact. Use the free converter below to get editor-friendly PNG files in a few clicks.
Convert WEBP to PNG
Add your WEBP files, check the settings and download them as PNG. Batch conversion, no sign-up and no watermark.
Why PNG is the safe choice for transparent WebP
WebP can contain an alpha channel, the part of the file that describes transparent pixels. PNG supports it too and is accepted by virtually every design tool, presentation program and CMS. JPG does not support transparency, so for cutouts, icons and stickers PNG is the format to choose. Because PNG is lossless, it will not add another round of compression to an image that has already been through the web.
Three simple steps
- Add one or more WebP files to the converter above.
- Make sure PNG is selected under “Convert to”. PNG is lossless, so “Quality” will not reduce detail. Use “Max width (optional)” only if you want to resize.
- Download each PNG, or take the full set with “Download all (ZIP)”.
Check your result on different backgrounds
Transparent images can fool the eye. Preview the PNG on a white page and again on a dark one. If you see a light halo around the edges, it usually comes from the original image and not the converter. In that case, clean the edge in an editor or request a version made for dark backgrounds.
| Feature | WebP | PNG |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Often smaller | Usually larger |
| Quality | Lossy or lossless | Lossless |
| Transparency | Supported | Supported |
| Animation | Supported | Not supported |
| Compatibility | Modern browsers and newer apps | Almost every program |
| Best for | Website delivery | Editing, logos, slides |
When PNG is not the best answer
- If the image is a photo without transparency, WebP to JPG usually gives a smaller file.
- If you want to place the picture in a document, WebP to PDF may fit better.
- If you plan to publish the image on a website again, keep the WebP or use PNG to WebP for the final version.
Animated WebP files
PNG cannot move, so an animated WebP produces a still image from the first frame. To keep the animation, use WebP to GIF, which is processed on the server and keeps motion.
Fixing typical WebP to PNG issues
The file is much heavier now
PNG is lossless, so photos grow a lot. Set “Max width (optional)” or choose JPG if you do not need transparency.
Edges look rough
The roughness was probably in the source. Hard-compressed WebP files can have artifacts that PNG preserves exactly.
Background is not transparent
Some WebP images only look transparent in a page because of CSS. The file itself may have a solid background, which you can remove in an image editor.
Conversion without uploading
Your WebP files are processed in your browser and never sent to our server. The tool is free, unlimited for normal use and adds no watermark.
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Both formats support an alpha channel, so transparent areas are kept.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
WebP is often compressed efficiently, while PNG is lossless and stores more data per pixel.
Will my designer software open PNG?
Yes. PNG is supported by Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Canva, GIMP and nearly all other design tools.
Can I batch convert many WebP files?
Yes. Add them together and download everything as a ZIP archive.
Is the WebP file deleted?
Nothing is uploaded or deleted. The converter creates new files and leaves your originals unchanged.
